The kit has an activity for investigating several properties of toothpaste samples, including the presence of fluoride, pH, abrasiveness, and foaming ability, and a second activity for using kit materials to create toothpaste. For hands-on learning, the kit has materials for 15 groups of students, including hydrochloric acid, glycerin, sodium lauryl sulfate, arabic gum, calcium carbonate, toothpaste, universal indicator strips, fluoride test strips, acetate sheets, polystyrene test tubes, and graduated plastic pipettes. Polystyrene (PS) is hard plastic with limited flexibility, that can be cast into molds and produced transparent or in various colors. The kit has a teacher’s manual and student study guide copymasters for instructional use, and a material safety data sheet (MSDS) packet for product information and handling procedures. The kit is suitable for age 13 and older with adult supervision, and meets the requirements for Department of Transportation (DOT) small quantity exemption 173.4, and conforms to 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 173.4 for domestic highway or rail transport only.Science education products incorporate applied math and science principles into classroom and homeschool-based projects.
